James W. Hill students have approximately100 minutes of art per week.
The study of art combines looking at famous works of art and thinking critically, student creative work, reflecting on their own work and understanding the cultural imprtance of art in our world.

Art is taught through understanding and application of the Elements and Principles of Design:

  • Line
  • Shape
  • Colour
  • Texture
  • Space
  • Form
  • Balance
  • Emphasis
  • Unity
  • Proportion
  • Movement
  •  Rhythm
Creativity is the highest of thinking skills and art incorporates a great deal of problem solving.
James W. Hill's art program for grades 6-8 covers all "vehicles" of art making. These "vehicles" include drawing (the basis of everything), painting, printmaking, assemblage, sculpture and mixed and /or multi-media work. Students will experience a wide range of art making to capture their interests, strengths and offer varied opportunities.
