des classes 5-3 et 5-4!

Français: students are studying mystery stories as an example of narrative text. We are also using this text form to practice inferences. Inferencing allows use to use the clues from the text and our own knowledge to "read between the lines" and solve the mystery. Our grammar focus is on new verb tenses: passé composé and imparfait. Students will use these verb tenses to write a recount of a day's events in the life of person belonging to an ancient civilisation, based on their research.

Homework: Students will be practicing the mechanics of conjugating verbs in passé composé and imparfait. They may also choose to do additional research on their civilisation and topic at home. Students should feel free to print and bring in materials they fell they can use in their research. We recommend research be done using French websites and discourage the use of web translators.

Book Report: The next book report is due May 16th. Again, students should answer one question from each category. The questions are available under "Rubriques et guides d'études".

Social Studies: We are embarquing on our study of ancient civilisations. We will start with a brief overview of archeology, and of a few of the techniques used to learn about people who lived in the past through artifacts. This unit will include a research project on an ancient civilisation and a feild trip to the Royal Ontario Museum on April 24th.
