General Homework Information

Homework duotang: Students are assigned weekly homework to practice French language structures and grammar. The homework will be given on Monday and will be due Thursday. Students are encouraged to use time management skills to plan to do the homework on a day that best fit their schedule, either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or a combination of these. They can use the homework to self-assess their understanding and attend any of the extra-help sessions (schedule posted soon) if they feel they need extra practice or have questions. I will either review individual students homework every week or post answer keys.

Vocabulary: Students create a list of new vocabulary with every new unit of study. The words are usually related to Social Studies or Science. Students are given time in class to complete activities related to the new vocabulary. While it is important for students to learn the proper spelling of new words, many of the class activities will focus on understanding the meaning of the words and practicing their use in oral and written communication. Students are assessed on the functional use of the vocabulary when talking (both in formal oral presentation and in conversation and discussion) or writing about the topic. A list of topical vocabulary is posted in the class and students are expected to use that ressource to spell the words correctly when writing.

Lecture en français: Students should aim to read in French for 60 minutes every week.

Écoute en français: Students are encouraged to listen to French programming on TV, on the radio, or by changing the language to French on a DVD. This is just as beneficial as reading in French.

Physical education:  : Thursdays and Fridays.

Book exchange: Students can borrow 2 books every week, one in English and one in French. Our library day is Tuesday.
